* Dear Master’s Student, *

Welcome back to the MS in Quantum Science and Technology Program at
Columbia University! This note reminds of resources and dates relevant
for registration into courses for the Spring of 2025.

*(1) Planning Your Program of Study*

To plan your program and courses, please consult the following:

· QST MS Quantum program information:
https://quantum.engineering.columbia.edu

· Quantum Course lists:
https://quantum.engineering.columbia.edu/content/curriculum

· MS Quantum program requirement checklist:

*(2) Advising*

Students do not need to have approval for choosing courses for the MS in
Quantum Science and Technology. They must follow the rules of the MS
Quantum program when selecting courses. Faculty are available for
consultation as needed.

*(3) Course Registration*

Registration is done in several cycles. There are opportunities
for early registration at the end of July and at the end of August, whereas
the final registration can be done or modified as far as mid-September
(during the Change of Program Period). To maximize your chances to get into
high demand courses, you should attempt doing early registration in
July/August for courses that allow it. General information
about registration is provided at this site:
https://www.registrar.columbia.edu/content/registration-and-enrollment.
Special rules may apply for SEAS students.

*(3.1) Registration times and semester start*

Columbia university academic calendar is published at: Academic Calendar |
Office of the University Registrar
<https://registrar.columbia.edu/event/academic-calendar>

For early registration across the university, see the calendar at
https://www.registrar.columbia.edu/content/registration-dates-2023-2024.

*Early Registration* for Spring 2025 for EE graduate students will be open
Monday, November 25, 2024 through November 27, 2024.

*Adjustments to course registrations* will be possible during
*Spring Registration* from January 14, 2025 to January 17, 2025.

Changes are further possible during the *Change of Program Period *during
Jan 21st - 31st.

Friday, January 31, 2025, *End of Change of Program Period*, is the last
day to add a class and the last day to receive a tuition refund for a
dropped class.

These deadlines are available from the Academic calendar -
http://registrar.columbia.edu/event/academic-calendar
<http://registrar.columbia.edu/event/academic-calendar>

*(3.2) Registration into classes for CE graduate students*

Quantum students can register for any CS COMS - EE (ELEN) courses and
cross-listed EE/CS, Physics - PHYS, Applied Physics and Applied Math –
APMA, APPH, courses through the SSOL <https://ssol.columbia.edu/> (student
services online) registration site – http://ssol.columbia.edu. Cross-listed
EE courses have course codes starting with EECS, CSEE, EEOR, EEME, etc. For
Spring 2025 registration.

*(3.3) Registration requirements and important rules*

● When registering, make sure to follow the rules/requirements which are
summarized in the Program Checklist
https://www.ee.columbia.edu/sites/default/files/content/MS%20Quantum%20Program%20Requirement%20Checklist%202024%20fall.pdf

● Any questions can be addressed at the orientation or in the meeting
with QST faculty.

● You can register for up to 15 credits per semester. Note that a
normal load for full-time students is 12 credits. Students on a student
visa must carry the full load in every semester (full load is 12
credits except
in the last semester when it can be less).

*(3.6) Pre-Registration limits for all master’s students in SEAS*

*For students in 30-credit MS programs including QST*

● During pre-registration, master’s students are only able to register
for a maximum of 15 credits, including courses for which the student is
registering on the waitlist. As has been past policy and practice, graduate
students may not take more than 15 credits per semester, and students are
reminded that they are billed per credit. In addition, graduate students
are reminded that if they drop classes after the last day of the Change of
Program (add/drop) period, they will be charged tuition for the dropped
classes.

● SEAS master’s students in their first or second semester will only
be able to be simultaneously registered and waitlisted for up to 15 credits.

● SEAS master’s students in their third or fourth semester will only
be able to be simultaneously registered and waitlisted for up to 9 credits.

● Example: if you are a third semester student and you are registered
for 7 credits and want to waitlist a class for 3 credits, you will not be
able to. Your total waitlisted/registered credits would be 10 which is
above the 9-credit max. You will either need to register or waitlist a
class that is 2 credits or drop a class you are registered for to waitlist
the 3-credit class.

● Example: If you are a first or second semester student, currently
registered for 9 credits and waitlisted for 3 credits and want to register
for an open 4 credit course, you will not be able to. Your total
waitlisted/registered credits would be 16 which is above the 15 max. You
will need to either drop a class or remove yourself from a waitlist.
